Jammu, May 22 (NationPress) Two terrorists have been eliminated during an ongoing confrontation with joint security forces in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials reported on Thursday, noting that a soldier sustained injuries.
The operation, involving forces such as Para two, 11 Rashtriya Rifles, 7 Assam Rifles, and the special operations group (SOG) of J&K Police, was initiated against a group of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists, who are believed to number between three and four, in the Singhpora Chatroo area.
“The encounter began in the morning and continues to unfold,” officials stated.
In response to specific intelligence regarding the terrorists' presence, joint security forces commenced a CASO (cordon and search operation) in the Singhpora, Chatroo area of Kishtwar district.
“The cordon was established to engage the terrorists and prevent their escape. As forces drew closer, the terrorists opened fire, leading to the ongoing encounter. Reports indicate that three to four Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists remain barricaded,” officials previously mentioned.
Designated as 'Op Trashi', the White Knight Corps of the Indian Army shared on its X account, “Contact has been established with #terrorists during a joint #operation with @JmuKmrPolice at #Chhatru, #Kishtwar this morning. Additional troops have been deployed, and operations to neutralize the terrorists are ongoing.”
Joint forces have intensified operations against terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers throughout Jammu and Kashmir.
These efforts were accelerated following an incident on April 22, when Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists targeted tourists based on religion, resulting in the deaths of 26 civilians, including 25 tourists and one local, in the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam.
This heinous act of terrorism sparked outrage nationwide. India responded with precision-guided attacks on terrorist infrastructures in Muridke near Lahore, Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). In retaliation, Pakistan engaged in heavy mortar shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir, targeting civilian structures.
As a result of Pakistani shelling, approximately 200 houses and shops were destroyed, displacing hundreds of border residents who fled to safer areas.
Many border inhabitants have yet to return home, as security forces are still neutralizing unexploded shells in Poonch, Rajouri, Baramulla, and Kupwara districts. A ceasefire was agreed upon by the DGMOs of both nations on June 12.
However, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized that this agreement will only be honored if Pakistan refrains from harboring terrorist activities against India, labeling this period as a probationary phase for Pakistan.
