Terrorists Engaged in Gunfire from Cave in Udhampur Forest?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jammu, Feb 4 (NationPress) An ongoing anti-terror operation is in effect on Wednesday in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir after terrorists were identified engaging in gunfire from a cave. Officials reported that drones operated by joint forces detected terrorists shooting from a cave located in the Ramnagar area of Udhampur district, prompting further tightening of the cordon to locate the hiding terrorists.
In response to actionable intelligence regarding the terrorists' presence, joint forces initiated an operation on Tuesday evening as the terrorists fired at them from a cave identified by the drones during the ongoing operation.
Officials stated, “The joint forces executed a measured response, advancing carefully while tightening the cordon around the terrorists to prevent their escape into the dense forest. UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) were crucial in confirming the terrorists' presence inside the cave, enabling the forces to adapt their strategy and mitigate unnecessary risks. The operation is being conducted with caution to consider the possibility of additional terrorists hiding in the vicinity. Local residents have been advised to stay indoors as a safety precaution until the operation concludes.”
The emergence of terrorists in the hilly regions of Udhampur, Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch, and Doda districts of Jammu division is a significant concern for security personnel.
During a high-level security review meeting in New Delhi, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on January 8, clear directives were issued to neutralize these terrorists, who are predominantly believed to be Pakistani nationals, while maintaining a zero-infiltration policy at the borders.
Amit Shah instructed the security forces to adopt a mission-mode approach to effectively achieve their goals.
The meeting included J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha; Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan; Tapan Kumar Deka, Director of the Intelligence Bureau; Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary of J&K; Nalin Prabhat, Director-General of Police, J&K; heads of Central Armed Police Forces; and various senior officials.
The Union Home Minister is scheduled to visit J&K for three days starting February 5. Alongside other engagements, Amit Shah is expected to visit the international border and conduct another security review meeting in Jammu city.
