Have Two Terrorists Been Killed in the Ongoing Gunfight in J&K’s Udhampur?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jammu, Feb 4 (NationPress) Two terrorists were eliminated on Wednesday during a prolonged gunfight with the combined security forces in the Basantgarh region of Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district.
Officials reported that the terrorists were neutralized while the process of recovering the bodies continues, as skirmishes persist in the densely wooded area.
The anti-terror operation commenced late Tuesday evening following the sighting of terrorists firing from a cave.
According to officials, drones deployed by the joint forces detected terrorists near a cave in the Ramnagar sector of Udhampur district, which led to a tighter cordon in the vicinity to corner the concealed terrorists.
Acting on actionable intelligence regarding the terrorists' presence, the combined security forces advanced on Tuesday evening as the terrorists opened fire from a cave identified by the drones.
Officials stated, “The joint forces executed a measured response, operating cautiously while tightening the cordon to thwart the terrorists' escape in the thickly forested area. UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) were instrumental in confirming the terrorists' presence inside the cave, enabling the joint forces to modify their strategy and minimize unnecessary risks.”
“The operation is being conducted meticulously, considering the potential for additional terrorists to be hiding in the vicinity. Residents of nearby areas have been advised to stay indoors as a precaution until the operation concludes,” said the officials.
The existence of terrorists in the hilly regions of Udhampur, Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch, and Doda districts of Jammu division has become a significant concern for security forces.
In a high-level security review meeting in New Delhi, presided over by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on January 8, explicit directives were issued to neutralize these terrorists, predominantly believed to be Pakistani nationals, while ensuring zero infiltration at the borders and the Line of Control (LoC).
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit J&K for three days starting February 5. Along with other responsibilities, he is scheduled to inspect the international border and lead another security review meeting in Jammu city.
