New Delhi, Feb 18 (NationPress) Following the productive visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the United States, Tesla, the electric vehicle company led by Elon Musk, is significantly increasing its hiring efforts in India, a market it plans to enter soon.

The recruitment surge comes after Musk's meeting with PM Modi in Washington, DC last week, where they explored a range of topics including space, mobility, technology, and innovation.

On its LinkedIn page, the electric car manufacturer has advertised job openings for at least 13 positions, primarily located in Mumbai and Delhi.

Available roles include business operation analyst, service technician, and several advisory positions such as customer engagement manager and order operations specialist, according to their listings.

This hiring initiative coincides with the recent reduction in India’s basic customs duty on high-end vehicles priced over $40,000, dropping from 110% to 70%.

Elon Musk has considered creating a more affordable Tesla model for the Indian market, although progress on this front has been limited.

After their meeting, Musk expressed that it was an “honour to meet” PM Modi.

“It was a joy to meet Elon Musk’s family and discuss a variety of subjects,” PM Modi shared earlier on X. “We covered numerous topics, including those Musk is passionate about, such as space, mobility, technology, and innovation. I also highlighted India’s initiatives towards reforming and promoting ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance.”

The meeting took place at the Blair House in Washington, DC.

According to a statement from the MEA, “PM Modi and Musk discussed enhancing collaboration between Indian and US entities in areas like innovation, space exploration, artificial intelligence, and sustainable development. Their conversation also focused on avenues to strengthen cooperation in emerging technologies, entrepreneurship, and effective governance.”

During this meeting, the PM presented books to Musk’s three children, including The Crescent Moon by Rabindranath Tagore, The Great RK Narayan Collection, and Panchatantra by Pandit Vishnu Sharma. Photos shared later show the children engaged in reading these books.

In return, Musk gifted PM Modi a special item, speculated to be a heat shield tile that flew during SpaceX’s Starship flight test 5 in October of the previous year. The tile is engraved with the inscription: “Starship flight test 5, October 12, 2024.”
