Mumbai, July 15 (NationPress) In a warm welcome to the entry of Elon Musk-led Tesla into India, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis declared on Tuesday that the nation is now a vibrant market for electric mobility, and the American electric vehicle manufacturer is poised to transform the entire landscape.
During the unveiling of Tesla’s inaugural showroom, named ‘Experience Centre’, located at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai, the chief minister emphasized that this occasion signifies not just the launch of an Experience Centre, but a declaration that Tesla has officially arrived in Mumbai, which he described as the entrepreneurial heart of India.
“Mumbai embodies innovation and sustainability. Tesla is more than just a vehicle or an automaker; it represents design, innovation, and sustainability,” CM Fadnavis remarked to an enthusiastic audience at the launch.
He reminisced about his first ride in a Tesla back in 2015 while in the US, pondering that such a vehicle could greatly enhance mobility in India.
“It may have taken a decade for Tesla to reach India, but we are thrilled to finally have you here. I am confident that the people of Mumbai, and indeed all of India, will embrace Tesla, making it one of your best markets once you begin delivering vehicles,” stated the chief minister.
CM Fadnavis highlighted that India currently boasts excellent policies aimed at developing charging infrastructure, incentivizing electric vehicles, and supporting electric vehicle manufacturing.
“This is a promising beginning, but we aspire to see significant R&D and manufacturing take place in India, and I am certain that Tesla will consider this at the right moment,” he added.
Tesla now operates four commercial properties in India, which include an engineering hub in Pune, a registered office in Bengaluru, and a temporary office near BKC. Tesla India Motor and Energy Private Ltd has also leased a 24,500-square-foot space in Kurla West to establish a service center, conveniently located near its upcoming showroom in BKC.
The electric vehicle producer has entered into a lease agreement with Bellissimo in City FC Mumbai I Private to occupy space in Lodha Logistics Park. This five-year agreement initiates with a monthly rent of Rs 37.53 lakh, totaling nearly Rs 25 crore over the lease period, including a security deposit of Rs 2.25 crore, as per official documents.
“I want you to know that you can count on us as partners on this journey,” assured CM Fadnavis.
