Mumbai, Dec 24 (NationPress) In a significant political turn ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray officially declared a political partnership, marking a remarkable reunion of the Thackeray cousins after almost twenty years. Uddhav Thackeray stated, "We have come together to stay together."

During a high-stakes joint press conference, both leaders emphasized that they had resolved past conflicts to uphold the dignity of Maharashtra and advocate for the rights of the “Marathi Manoos”. The alliance is strategically aimed at confronting the BJP and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, who currently wield considerable influence in the state.

While specifics regarding seat-sharing and the alliance's scope in other local bodies were not disclosed, Raj Thackeray indicated that the BMC Mayor from this coalition would be a Marathi individual. Uddhav Thackeray reinforced the idea of a lasting partnership, asserting that they had “come together to stay together.”

In a confrontational tone, Uddhav Thackeray criticized the BJP’s political stance. He evoked the legacy of the Thackeray lineage, recalling the sacrifices made by his grandfather, Prabodhankar Thackeray, and father, Balasaheb Thackeray, for the benefit of Mumbai and Maharashtra.

“Today, Mumbai has become an eyesore for the authorities in Delhi. We have united out of a sense of responsibility, and this bond is unbreakable,” he remarked.

Targeting the BJP’s slogan, Uddhav cautioned: “The BJP claims ‘Katenge toh Batenge’ (divided we fall). I counter with ‘Chukal tar Sampal’ (if you falter now, you will be finished). We will not rest until those who aspire to separate Mumbai from Maharashtra are politically eradicated.”

Raj Thackeray elucidated the ideological foundation of the reunion, linking it to a previous discussion where he argued that the interests of Maharashtra must take precedence over personal rivalries.

“I officially declare the alliance between Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena,” Raj stated. “Maharashtra requires stability at a time when ‘gangs’ are hijacking political parties across the state. This alliance is not merely for elections; it is for the long-term welfare of Maharashtra.”

With characteristic humor, Raj Thackeray defended the decision to keep seat-sharing arrangements undisclosed.

“In the past, we had gangs that abducted children. Now, we have gangs that kidnap political party members. Therefore, we will not disclose who is contesting from which area. Candidates will receive private notifications regarding their nominations,” he quipped.

Both leaders emphasized that continuing their rivalry would be a disservice to the martyrs of the Samyukta Maharashtra movement.

The joint press conference concluded with Raj Thackeray proclaiming, “The Mumbai alliance is merely the initial step. I can assure you with complete confidence — the next Mayor of Mumbai will be Marathi and will represent our alliance.”

Previously, Sanjay Raut, Shiv Sena MP, described the day as “historic for Maharashtra,” highlighting that the reunion after twenty years is a “moment of joy for every Marathi individual.” He noted that the Shiv Sena was established by Balasaheb Thackeray for the “sons of the soil,” and that the prolonged separation between the cousins had deeply affected Maharashtra.

Before the press conference, Uddhav and Raj Thackeray arrived together in the same vehicle and paid homage to Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray at his memorial located at Chhatrapati Shivaji Park in Dadar. They were accompanied by Rashmi Thackeray, Sharmila Thackeray, Aaditya Thackeray, and Amit Thackeray, along with a large gathering of Shiv Sainiks and MNS supporters.
