New Delhi, April 18 (NationPress) Former Union Minister Anurag Thakur has described the almost-defunct National Herald newspaper as an ATM of the Congress, criticizing the party for its approach of “family first, party next”. He stated that the ED case has revealed that Congress leaders have been “caught cheating, yet again”.
Thakur condemned the Congress for its legacy of alleged corruption dating back to the era of the first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. He remarked, “Whenever we discuss National Herald... it sends shockwaves through the entire Congress ecosystem. It’s clear they would react strongly as they’ve been caught red-handed once more. The history of Congress is riddled with numerous scams since Independence.”
He asserted that the ED investigation has demonstrated how Congress leaders attempted to obtain property valued at Rs 2,000 crore by paying a mere Rs 50 lakh, thereby exposing the “Congress model of corruption”.
Furthermore, he claimed that the rent and advertising expenses associated with the National Herald have revealed Congress’s corruption and their treatment of the newspaper as an ATM.
Thakur’s criticism of the Congress coincided with a protest march led by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in Delhi against the alleged corruption of Congress leaders Sonia and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, leading the Yuva Morcha protesters, stated, “The Congress has a history of corruption.”
While marching with party workers holding signs that said, “Corruption in tradition, Congress’s only mission,” Sachdeva added, “There is no reason for the Congress to feel restless if its leaders have done no wrong.”
The ED investigation in the National Herald case is ongoing with the approval of the High Court, as judges dismissed the objections brought forth by the Congress.
Previously, Thakur criticized the Gandhi family for misusing their power for corrupt practices.
He stated that they adhere to the principle of family first, party next, adding that the Congress's discomfort regarding the ED proceedings against its leaders in the National Herald case is a sign of their guilt.
Thakur also criticized Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for providing advertisements to the defunct National Herald media.
“In Himachal Pradesh, the leading newspapers are receiving only a quarter of the government advertisements allocated to National Herald,” he mentioned.
Thakur concluded by stating that the ED chargesheet has unveiled the “Congress model of corruption”, as a weekly publication that is not even operational is receiving more advertising than daily newspapers.
