Srinagar, June 13 (NationPress) Thieves targeted the apple nursery of a poor, physically challenged farmer in Jammu and Kashmir’s (J&K) Shopian district, making off with 400 high density young apple trees.
This incident adds to a worrying trend of apple tree thefts in the district, renowned for cultivating the finest quality apples in Kashmir.
Over the past decade, apple farmers have transitioned from traditional varieties to high density trees, which bear fruit within just one to two years after being planted.
Due to their rapid fruit production and ease of management, these high density apple trees have garnered significant demand in the Valley, with prices ranging between Rs 200 and Rs 400 based on the fruit variety.
