Thunderstorms, heavy rain likely in Kolkata, South Bengal during Phase 2 voting

Synopsis

Rain on election day

As the second phase of West Bengal Assembly elections got underway on Wednesday, 29 April, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Kolkata's Alipore warned of thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain across South Bengal districts and Kolkata later in the day. Voting in 142 constituencies is ongoing amid sweltering heat and high humidity, raising concerns about voter turnout in the afternoon hours.

Weather Warning Issued

A Met department official attributed the deteriorating weather to a cyclonic circulation over North Bengal, combined with an influx of moisture from the Bay of Bengal and an east-west low-pressure axis.
