New Delhi/Agartala, Aug 1 (NationPress) Tipra Motha Party (TMP) leader Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma stated on Friday that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has pledged to personally ensure that the Indian government’s promises to the ‘Tiprasa’ (tribal) community are honored.

Debbarma met with Shah in New Delhi to discuss the details of executing the tripartite accord.

“Had a productive discussion with Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the execution of the Tiprasa Accord for our state's populace. He assured us that he will personally oversee the government's commitment to the Tiprasa people,” Debbarma posted on X.

After extensive negotiations and the signing of a tripartite agreement with the Centre and the Tripura government on March 2 last year, the former opposition TMP, consisting of 13 MLAs, joined the BJP-led coalition government in the state on March 7, marking a significant shift in Tripura's political landscape.

The two TMP MLAs - Animesh Debbarma and Brishaketu Debbarma - were incorporated into the ministry led by Chief Minister Manik Saha.

TMP sources in Agartala revealed that an eight-member delegation, spearheaded by party chief Debbarma, engaged with Shah to discuss various matters concerning the indigenous tribes in Tripura and the implementation of the tripartite accord.

The TMP delegation also included Kriti Devi Debbarman, BJP Lok Sabha member from the Tripura East parliamentary constituency, and elder sister of the TMP chief.

The TMP leaders spent 12 days in the national capital and met with the Election Commission of India (ECI), under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with BJP President and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, to address various issues.

The TMP leaders urged the ECI to carry out a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Tripura, akin to the process being implemented in Bihar.

Debbarma informed the media that the ECI assured them that the SIR of the electoral rolls would be conducted nationwide, including in Tripura.

A TMP spokesperson in Agartala stated that during their meeting with Nadda, they also deliberated on the execution of the tripartite accord, affirmed on March 2 last year in the presence of Union Home Minister Shah.

Concerns regarding national security due to the current situation in Bangladesh and the injustices faced by minorities there were also addressed with the Union Minister Nadda.

“The Union government previously guaranteed the execution of the tripartite accord before last year's Lok Sabha elections in favor of the indigenous people of Tripura,” the TMP spokesperson added.
