Chennai, Jan 26 (NationPress) In a significant address on Republic Day, R. N. Ravi, the Governor of Tamil Nadu, urged the populace to recommit to the principle of “nation first” and collaborate for a self-reliant and developed Bharat by 2047.
In his address, the Governor emphasized that Republic Day transcends being a mere ceremonial occasion; it serves as a vital opportunity to contemplate India’s evolution as a sovereign democratic republic and to renew our dedication to its future.
Extending his warm wishes to the citizens, the Governor reflected on the tremendous sacrifices made by freedom fighters who faced great adversity and sacrificed their lives for the nation’s independence.
He highlighted that this day also reminds us of the pivotal contributions made by members of the Constituent Assembly, whose foresight culminated in a robust, inclusive, and resilient constitution that continues to direct the nation and uphold the rights and dignity of its citizens.
In discussing India’s democratic heritage, Governor Ravi stated that the nation has every reason to take pride in its strong democratic framework, describing democracy as a “living heritage” deeply intertwined with the civilizational ethos of Bharat.
He noted that democratic practices in India are not new or borrowed but have existed in various forms for centuries, referencing the Uttaramerur inscriptions as an impressive illustration of advanced local self-governance systems in ancient Tamil society.
Addressing development initiatives, the Governor pointed out that Tamil Nadu has significantly benefited from numerous Central government projects. He mentioned the current railway budget allocation of Rs 6,626 crore, aimed at modernizing over 80 stations and enhancing regional connectivity with Vande Bharat trains.
According to him, such multi-modal infrastructure projects are improving mobility, facilitating trade, creating job opportunities, and enhancing access to prospects, thereby bolstering the state’s economy and quality of life.
The Governor also remarked on the renewed national interest in the Tamil language and culture, noting that Tamil is attracting new learners and enthusiasts throughout India, with students from universities outside the state increasingly choosing to study the language.
He stressed that India’s linguistic and cultural diversity fosters unity, mutual respect, and harmony.
Calling the people of Tamil Nadu its greatest asset, Ravi encouraged the youth, women, farmers, fishermen, weavers, artisans, and all segments of society to prioritize the nation. He urged them to harness their entrepreneurial spirit and collective energy to help achieve the vision of a self-reliant and developed Bharat by 2047.
