Hyderabad, Feb 27 (NationPress) Six prominent members of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist recently met with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy after surrendering to the Telangana Police.

The group included Thippiri Tirupati, known as Devuji, who served as a Central Committee Member and was in charge of the Politburo and Central Military Commission (CMC) of the CPI-Maoist. Malla Raji Reddy, also known as Sangram and a Central Committee Member, was among those who met the Chief Minister at the State Secretariat.

Alongside them were Pothula Kalpana, alias Sujatha, Pulluri Prasad Rao, alias Chandranna—both former Central Committee members—Bade Chokka Rao, alias Damodar, who held the position of Secretary of the Telangana State Committee (TSC), and Nune Narsimha Reddy, alias Ganganna, a former State Committee member.

Devuji, Raji Reddy, Chokka Rao, and Narasimha Reddy surrendered to the police on Tuesday, while the other two had integrated into the mainstream earlier.

Notable officials such as government advisors K. Kesava Rao and Vem Narender Reddy, Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, Director General of Police (DGP) Shivadhar Reddy, Additional Director General (Intelligence) Vijay Kumar, and Inspector General of Special Intelligence Bureau Sumati were also present during the meeting.

At a press conference on Tuesday, DGP Reddy stated that these key Maoist leaders returned to the mainstream following Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's earlier appeal to CPI-Maoist members to abandon violence and engage in the development and welfare of the state and its citizens.

According to DGP Reddy, a total of 591 Maoists have surrendered to the Telangana Police since 2024, including four Central Committee Members and 16 State Committee Members.

He further revealed that only 11 underground CPI-Maoist members from Telangana remain active.

"Out of these, two Area Committees are currently functioning within the Telangana State Committee, while others are operating in various states, including Chhattisgarh," he added.

DGP Reddy urged all remaining underground CPI-Maoist members, especially the 11 from Telangana, to renounce violence, return to their hometowns, reunite with their families, and actively contribute to the state's development.

Point of View

The surrender of these prominent Maoist leaders highlights a potentially transformative moment in Telangana's approach to dealing with extremism. The government's efforts to engage these individuals in the developmental narrative could pave the way for broader peace initiatives and community rehabilitation.
