New Delhi, Dec 18 (NationPress) The e-visa facility, categorized into nine sub-types, is now accessible to citizens from 171 nations, allowing entry through 31 specific international airports and six major seaports, as reported in Parliament on Thursday.
In a written statement to the Rajya Sabha, Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat highlighted that to enhance tourism, a total of 53 projects worth Rs 2,208.27 crore have been approved under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0) initiative.
Additionally, 36 projects costing Rs 648.11 crore have been sanctioned under the Challenge-Based Destination Development (CBDD) scheme, he stated.
The funds for these projects are sanctioned by the Ministry of Tourism and implemented by the respective State/UT agencies.
He mentioned that the Swadesh Darshan Scheme has been updated to Swadesh Darshan 2.0, which aims to create sustainable and responsible tourism destinations through a tourist-centric approach.
The development and redevelopment of tourist sites, especially those impacted by natural disasters, and the management of tourism in ecologically sensitive areas, are handled by the respective State Governments/Union Territory (UT) Administrations.
The Ministry of Tourism provides financial aid for tourism infrastructure development via its central sector programs, including 'Swadesh Darshan', 'Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD)', and 'Assistance to Central Agencies for Tourism Infrastructure Development'.
This financial support is granted following guidelines and based on detailed project proposals from State and UT Governments.
He also noted that information regarding tourist destinations is promoted through the Incredible India Digital Portal.
The Ministry has launched the Incredible India Content Hub on the revamped Incredible India digital portal (www.incredibleindia.gov.in), aimed at providing a rich digital repository of high-quality images, films, brochures, and newsletters for global industry stakeholders such as travel media, tour operators, and travel agents to enhance their marketing efforts.
Beyond this, the Ministry also actively promotes tourism in India through various initiatives, including events, social media campaigns, and outreach efforts.
