Patna, Jan 23 (NationPress) Local residents in Patna, Saran, and Bhojpur have been enduring significant traffic disruptions on National Highway 922 (Patna-Arrah Highway).
Addressing the escalating public distress, Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Road Construction, Vijay Kumar Sinha, held a high-level meeting on Thursday aimed at formulating a resolution.
The meeting, which took place via video call, brought together senior officials from the Road Construction Department, district administrations, and Superintendents of Police from Patna, Bhojpur, and Saran.
Sinha assured participants and the community that the issue of traffic congestion would be tackled expeditiously through the rollout of several critical initiatives.
Attendees included senior officials, such as the Additional Chief Secretary of the Road Construction Department, who provided detailed insights about the traffic situation.
Moreover, the Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) delivered an extensive presentation outlining challenges and potential solutions.
Sinha highlighted that expanding the stretch between Kanhauli Chowk and Koilwar to four lanes is vital for alleviating the Bihta traffic congestion.
“This roadway, managed by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), will be instrumental in mitigating congestion. NHAI officials were present at the meeting and were instructed to accelerate the road widening process,” Sinha stated.
He also mandated that immediate repairs be undertaken on the 5-kilometer stretch linking Manbhavan Chowk (Bhojpur) to Jhanga Chowk (Saran). This repair is anticipated to ease vehicle flow and significantly reduce traffic snarls.
To facilitate better traffic management, round-the-clock police presence has been arranged at major congestion hotspots. Special directives have been issued to ensure smooth movement for smaller vehicles, which frequently suffer the most from traffic delays.
An alternative route from Naghar (NH-139) to Pareb (Bihta) is in consideration. This bypass will redirect vehicles away from the congestion at Bihta Chowk. Once completed, vehicles traveling from Kanpa-Bikram will reach Bhojpur directly without passing through Bihta Chowk.
Sinha reaffirmed the government’s dedication to resolving the Bihta traffic jam issue promptly.
“All relevant officials have been instructed to collaborate and execute essential construction and improvement tasks. Ensuring smooth traffic flow in the state is a priority under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar,” Sinha concluded.
The four-lane NH 922 is a crucial corridor connecting Delhi to Patna, via the Poorvanchal Expressway, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, and Yamuna Expressway.
