Patna, Feb 17 (NationPress) Tragedy struck as two educators lost their lives, and 16 others sustained injuries, involving 11 students and five teachers, in a devastating road mishap in Rohtas district, Bihar, during the early hours of Tuesday.

The deadly incident unfolded around 12:45 a.m. when a speeding bus, transporting teachers and students on an educational trip to Patna, collided with a heavy vehicle while attempting to overtake near Sohsa village, under the jurisdiction of Parsathua police station, on the Arrah-Mohania National Highway.

As reported by Ramchandra Choupal, the officer in charge of the Parsathua outpost, the bus driver struck the rear left side of the heavy vehicle.

After the crash, the bus driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle on the highway.

“It is believed that the driver may have dozed off momentarily or was driving recklessly and failed to keep a safe distance while overtaking. The heavy vehicle involved appears to be a truck,” stated the officer.

Post-collision, the driver of the heavy vehicle also fled the scene with the truck. Authorities have initiated a search operation to locate both drivers.

“Once the bus driver is captured, we will have a clearer understanding of the accident's circumstances,” the officer remarked.

The police arrived promptly after being alerted and rescued the injured students and teachers, transporting them to Sadar Hospital, Sasaram.

“Eleven children and five teachers suffered minor injuries and are currently out of danger,” the officer confirmed.

The injured individuals were unable to provide a coherent account of the incident, only mentioning they heard a loud noise at the moment of impact.

The deceased have been identified as Sanjay Kumar Rai, a resident of Bhainshar village in Chainpur, Kaimur district, and Puneet Kumar Singh, a resident of Baghawa village under the Mavihar police station in Mirzapur district.

Among the injured teachers are Vipin Pandey, Siyananda Patel, Lori Singh, Lalita Kumari, along with another teacher.

The bus was carrying students and teachers from Middle School Badhona, located in Chainpur block of Kaimur district, for an educational excursion to Patna.

Authorities have filed an FIR against the bus driver on charges of reckless and negligent driving, and an investigation is currently in progress.
