Patna, Feb 12 (NationPress) Two individuals lost their lives and eight others sustained injuries in a serious road mishap in Bihar's Rohtas district on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at Gorhat village under Shivsagar police station on NH 19 when a Sports Utility Vehicle collided with a parked truck from behind at approximately 5:30 a.m.

Local residents quickly reached the scene and alerted the authorities regarding the accident.

The injured were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical care.

Local police arrived swiftly after the incident and commenced an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Initial investigations indicate that the driver might have overlooked the parked truck or possibly fell asleep at the wheel, resulting in the collision.

The victims were returning from a sacred dip at Triveni Sangam when the incident occurred.

The deceased have been identified as Jeetu Das and Lakshmi Chakraborty, both residents of Tironga in 24 Parganas, West Bengal.

The injured individuals include Trisha Das, Indu Das, Pallav Banerjee, Roshan Ghosh, Ujjwal Das, Umar Farooq, Ansar Ali, and one other.

Upon receiving the report, Shivsagar police promptly arrived at the scene, assisted by locals, to transfer the injured to a nearby medical facility. Those in critical condition were referred to a more advanced healthcare center.

Ritesh Kumar Singh, the SHO of Shivsagar police station stated: "We have sent the injured individuals to Sadar Hospital Sasaram, with two being referred to a higher facility at Jamuhar Medical College for treatment. Their conditions are deemed critical."

Earlier, on February 11, another devastating road accident in Kaimur district resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including a woman, while two others were injured.
