Patna, May 12 (NationPress) A tragic road mishap unfolded on National Highway 19 near Itwan village in the Karakat block of Rohtas district on Monday, resulting in the deaths of four family members as a speeding bus collided with their motorbike.
Roushan Kumar, the Superintendent of Police for Rohtas, informed IANS that the bodies were retrieved and sent to the hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The victims have been named as Ramesh Sah (36), a resident of Ladui village under the Badhari police station, his wife Tetri Devi (alias Kanchan Devi) (32), their daughter Aradhana Kumari (8), and son Aryan Kumar (6).
The family was returning from Tetri Devi's maternal home when the accident transpired. A bus en route from Dehri to Bikramganj struck their bike before fleeing the scene.
In response to the incident, local residents blocked NH-19, protesting against reckless driving and inadequate road safety measures. They temporarily placed the deceased bodies on the roadway.
Despite police intervention from Karakat police station, the angry crowd remained firm, demanding stringent action against the driver and fair compensation for the victims' family.
Additional police units from nearby stations were dispatched to restore peace. After prolonged discussions, the blockade was lifted, allowing traffic to resume.
