Patna, Aug 15 (NationPress) In a devastating incident, eleven individuals from Bihar's East Champaran district tragically lost their lives in a collision between a passenger bus and a tractor-trolley on National Highway 19 in East Burdwan, West Bengal, this past Friday.
In response to this unfortunate event, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed his heartfelt condolences to the grieving families, describing the incident as deeply saddening.
The Chief Minister announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for each family affected by the tragedy from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, and Rs 50,000 for the injured. He also extended his wishes for a swift recovery to those who were hurt.
Nitish Kumar has instructed officials to collaborate with the West Bengal government to facilitate the return of the deceased to Bihar and ensure the injured receive appropriate medical care.
“I pray for strength for the families enduring this loss,” he remarked.
The victims were from the villages of Sarsawa, Lalbegiya, and Chiraiya, located under the Chiraiya police station in East Champaran.
As per reports, the bus was transporting pilgrims back to Chhatauni in East Champaran after a religious visit to Deoghar and Gangasagar when the collision with the tractor-trolley occurred on National Highway 19.
The accident's impact was devastating, leading to the immediate deaths of 10 individuals, while over 20 others suffered injuries and were rushed to local hospitals. The bus was severely damaged due to the collision.
Initially, local residents began the rescue operations, quickly joined by the local police to assist in saving lives.
