Kolkata, Oct 25 (NationPress) A tragic road incident claimed the lives of three individuals in West Bengal's Hooghly district early Saturday morning.
As reported by the police, the victims, all potters, were traveling back to Asansol in their vehicle when the accident occurred in the Kanajuli area, close to the Gurap police station along National Highway-19.
During their return, the car lost control suddenly and collided with the rear of a moving vehicle. The impact was so severe that the front of the car was left completely mangled. The three occupants sustained critical injuries.
Initial rescue efforts were undertaken by local residents, who then alerted the Gurap police. Officers arrived quickly to assist the injured and transported them to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital.
Unfortunately, despite medical attempts, all three were pronounced dead upon arrival. The deceased have been identified as Divas Mandal (30), Kaushik Mandal (28), and Nimai Das (38), all of whom are recognized as potters. Divas resided in Hingalganj of North 24 Parganas, Kaushik was from the Haroa police station area, and Nimai hailed from the Rabindra Sarobar area in South Kolkata.
Preliminary police investigations suggest that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
"A devastating accident occurred around 4 to 5 a.m. The vehicle was traveling at high speed when it lost control and crashed into another car. Tragically, three lives were lost. An in-depth investigation is underway," stated a senior official from the Hooghly district police.
The bodies have been sent for autopsy. Family members of the deceased potters have been notified. The local community is mourning the loss, casting a shadow of sorrow over the neighborhood.
