Key Takeaways
Chatra, Dec 29 (NationPress) - A violent confrontation between rival factions in Gendra village, located under the Kunda police station jurisdiction of Jharkhand's Chatra district, resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left two others critically wounded, according to police reports on Monday.
The clash, which erupted late Sunday night, has instilled a sense of fear and unrest within the community. The victims have been identified as Devendra Ganjhu and Churaman Ganjhu.
Initial police investigations suggest that both factions were previously linked to the outlawed Maoist group known as the Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC).
Officials indicated that, around midnight, Devendra Ganjhu, along with his associates, confronted Shyam Bhokta at his residence over a long-standing dispute. Tensions escalated rapidly, leading to a violent clash.
During the conflict, it is alleged that Devendra Ganjhu and his group opened fire indiscriminately. Shyam Bhokta and his brother-in-law, Gopal Ganjhu, sustained severe gunshot wounds in the exchange. In the resulting crossfire, Devendra Ganjhu and Churaman Ganjhu were pronounced dead at the scene.
Upon notification of the incident, police officials including Lovalong police station in-charge Prashant Mishra, Kunda police station in-charge Prince Kumar, and Simaria police inspector Sanoj Chaudhary, along with personnel from the SSB’s 35th Battalion, swiftly arrived at the scene to restore order. The deceased were taken into custody for post-mortem analysis.
The injured victims were initially transported to Pratapgarh Community Health Centre but were later referred to Daltonganj (Medininagar) and subsequently to RIMS, Ranchi for advanced treatment. Medical professionals have reported that both individuals remain in critical condition.
Preliminary findings indicate that the incident was the result of an ongoing rivalry and power struggle among former members of the TPC. Reports indicate that Devendra Ganjhu had a history of criminal activity, with 36 serious cases filed against him. The injured Shyam Bhokta also had ties to the outlawed group.
The village remains tense following the incident, with many residents choosing to stay indoors due to fear. Police presence has been heightened in the area, and investigations are ongoing from multiple angles.
