Intense Clash in Jharkhand: Security Forces vs. Maoists in Chaibasa
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chaibasa (Jharkhand), April 15 (NationPress) An intense confrontation unfolded on Wednesday between security personnel and a prohibited Naxalite (Maoist) group in the Saranda forest area of Jharkhand's Chaibasa district, as reported by officials.
The security forces encountered a faction led by the notorious Maoist leader Misir Besra, who is currently under a substantial bounty of Rs 1 crore. Preliminary reports suggest that multiple Maoists may have lost their lives during the gunfight. Additionally, a soldier from the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) sustained injuries and is being airlifted to Ranchi for urgent medical care.
The exchange of gunfire reportedly began around 10 a.m. within the dense forests situated between Marang Ponga and Baliba villages under the jurisdiction of the Chhota Nagra police station in the West Singhbhum district.
Authorities had received intelligence indicating that the infamous leader Besra was preparing to relocate his camp with his group. Acting on this vital information, a coordinated team from the CoBRA unit, Jharkhand Jaguar, and district police initiated a thorough search operation in the vicinity. As the security forces attempted to encircle the Maoists within the forest's interior, the insurgents initiated a barrage of gunfire, prompting a strong retaliation from the security forces, who reportedly gained the upper hand.
Sources confirm that four Maoists were neutralized due to the precision firing from the forces, while several others are believed to have been injured. However, due to the challenging terrain and the dense forest, the police have been unable to retrieve any bodies or provide official confirmation.
It is also reported that alongside Misir Besra, other notorious Maoists including Mochu, Sagen Angaria, and Ashwin were present in the group.
In the aftermath of the encounter, security forces have amplified their search efforts and secured the entire area. Given the condition of the injured CoBRA soldier, arrangements are in progress to transfer him from Chaibasa to Ranchi for superior medical treatment.
