Tragic Kurla Bus Incident: Maharashtra Chief Minister Declares Rs 5 Lakh Aid for Victims' Families

Mumbai, Dec 10 (NationPress) Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis declared on Tuesday that a financial support of Rs 5 lakh would be provided from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to assist the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic Kurla bus accident that resulted in the death of seven individuals and left 49 others injured.
The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Monday when the driver of a BEST bus lost control while en route from Kurla station to Sakinaka, colliding with pedestrians and multiple vehicles before crashing into a residential area.
The Chief Minister expressed his condolences and stated that he has instructed the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation and BEST to cover the medical expenses for those injured in this unfortunate event. He expressed his sorrow over the fatalities, stating, "We share the grief of the families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured."
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde emphasized the need for thorough investigations to determine the causes of this accident and assured that appropriate measures would be taken. He remarked, "Public transport systems like BEST must implement precautions to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. I offer my humble tribute to the deceased."
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar vowed to conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident, pledging strict action against anyone found responsible. He noted, "It is incredibly tragic that many lives were lost due to a speeding BEST bus near the Kurla railway station. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and hope for the swift recovery of the injured, who are receiving treatment in local hospitals."
Previously, former opposition leader Vijay Wadettiwar raised concerns regarding the government's response, demanding immediate aid for the victims' families. He highlighted alarming information about the driver, suggesting that he was a contract driver lacking experience in operating a bus. "How did this individual get hired without the necessary qualifications? The BEST administration must be held accountable for this grave oversight, and strict actions should be enforced against those at fault," he asserted.
