How Did a Tragic Road Accident Claim Lives in Jharkhand's Deoghar?

Deoghar, July 29 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his profound sorrow over the tragic loss of Kanwariyas in Jharkhand's Deoghar, offering heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

In a devastating incident near Jamuniya village in Deoghar district on Tuesday, eighteen Kanwariyas lost their lives, while ten others sustained injuries.

This calamity unfolded during the annual Shravani Mela, a sacred pilgrimage where thousands of devotees travel to present holy water at the Baba Baidyanath Dham temple.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, PM Modi remarked, "The road accident in Deoghar, Jharkhand, is profoundly tragic. I extend my deepest condolences to the families of the devotees who perished in this incident. May God provide them with the strength to cope with their loss. Additionally, I pray for the swift recovery of all the injured."

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren also conveyed his sorrow regarding the accident, saying, "This morning, we received extremely heartbreaking news about the loss of devotees in a bus accident near Jamuniya Chowk in the Mohanpur block of Deoghar."

He assured that the district administration is actively engaged in providing relief and rescue operations alongside medical aid for the injured.

"May Baba Baidyanath bestow peace upon the souls of the departed devotees and grant strength to the grieving families during this sorrowful time," the Chief Minister added.

Earlier in the day, Deoghar MP Nishikant Dubey confirmed the tragedy, stating, "In my Lok Sabha constituency of Deoghar, during the Kanwar Yatra in the month of Shravan, eighteen devotees lost their lives due to a bus and truck collision. May Baba Baidyanath Ji provide strength to their families to endure this grief."

The accident occurred in the Mohanpur block of Deoghar, situated along the banks of the north-flowing Jamuniya River, near a prominent Shiva-Parvati temple.

The collision happened when a bus carrying approximately 35 devotees heading to Deoghar to offer 'jal' (holy water) at Baba Baidyanath Dham was violently struck head-on by a truck transporting gas cylinders.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrifying, with the impact so severe that the bus was reportedly torn apart, and screams filled the air in the aftermath.

Numerous devotees remained trapped within the wreckage, prompting an urgent response from police, ambulance services, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), who collaborated to rescue the injured and recover the deceased.

The injured were swiftly transported to nearby primary health centers and Deoghar Sadar Hospital. Officials reported that some victims were in critical condition. The identities of the deceased are currently being verified, and their bodies are undergoing post-mortem examinations.
