Bengaluru, Sep 27 (NationPress) A tragic incident occurred in Karnataka's Bagalkote district where an 11-year-old boy lost his life and another was seriously injured after the roof of their home caved in due to heavy rainfall on Saturday.
The victim was identified as Darshan Latur, while the injured boy, Shreeshail, is currently receiving treatment at a government hospital, as reported by the police.
The unfortunate event took place at their residence near Ambedkar Circle in Mahalingapur. At the time of the collapse, both boys were asleep in a room with Darshan's mother, who had moved to another room just before the incident.
At approximately 5 a.m., the roof and a wall came crashing down, resulting in the immediate death of Darshan. The accident left Shreeshail with serious injuries. Emergency response teams, including revenue officials and local police, promptly arrived at the scene to conduct an inspection.
This incident comes amidst heavy rainfall in Maharashtra, contributing to significant flooding in the Kalaburagi district of Karnataka.
The state’s Minister for RDPR, IT, and BT, Priyank Kharge, is currently visiting affected areas such as Kanasur, Kanasuru, and Malaghana villages in the Chittapura Assembly constituency. These regions have been heavily impacted by flooding from the Bennethora River. The minister has assured villagers that he will return once the rains subside to address their needs.
During his visit, he assessed houses that had collapsed due to the downpour, directing officials to quickly conduct a survey and report on the damages.
As a result of ongoing heavy rains, water was released from the Bennethora reservoir, leading to village flooding. Residents were temporarily relocated to a relief center where provisions for food and shelter have been set up.
Additionally, the minister instructed the Kalgi Tahsildar to ensure that all essential services are provided to the affected villagers.
Meanwhile, the capital, Bengaluru, experienced light showers and cool weather.
Last month, schools in seven districts of Karnataka were closed due to the severe rain.
