Bengaluru, May 19 (NationPress) A tragic incident unfolded in Bengaluru as three individuals, including a nine-year-old boy, lost their lives due to rain-related incidents following heavy downpours on Monday.
Shashikala, an employee of a private firm, died after a wet compound wall unexpectedly collapsed on her in Whitefield during the morning hours. She was en route to Channasandra when the wall fell, leading to her fatal injuries.
Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has declared a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for Shashikala’s family.
In a separate incident, two individuals, including a young child, met a tragic end in an electrocution incident reported from BTM Layout in the evening. The victims were identified as Manohar Kamat, aged 55, and Dinesh, a nine-year-old from Nepal. Police reports suggest that both were electrocuted while attempting to pump rainwater from the basement of an apartment using a motor.
The occurrence took place at the Madhuvana Apartment located in N.S. Palya, 2nd Stage, BTM Layout. Authorities from the Mico Layout police responded promptly and transported the victims to St. John’s Hospital.
This weekend, Bengaluru experienced a significant rainfall of 132 mm on Sunday night, with the Meteorological Department forecasting more heavy rain for Monday night and May 20.

Since I assumed the role of Bengaluru Development Minister, we have resolved flooding issues in 166 of those localities. Ongoing flood prevention efforts are taking place in 24 areas, while work will soon commence in the remaining 20 areas. A total of 197 km of stormwater drains have been constructed.”
“The traffic police have pinpointed 132 locations that flood during heavy rains. We have rectified issues in 82 spots, while 41 remain to be addressed. We're investing Rs 2,000 crore into stormwater drains,” he added.
