Kaushambi, April 28 (NationPress) In a heartbreaking incident, five villagers tragically lost their lives and three others sustained serious injuries due to a sudden collapse of a soil mound while they were excavating at a pond in Tikar Deeh village, located in the Kokhraj police station area of Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi district, on Monday, officials reported.
As per Brajesh Kumar Srivastava, the Public Relations Officer for the Superintendent of Police, eight villagers had ventured to the pond to collect soil intended for whitewashing their homes. During their efforts, a substantial mound of soil unexpectedly collapsed, burying all of them beneath the debris.
Upon receiving alerts, police teams promptly arrived at the scene and, with the aid of local residents, successfully extricated all eight individuals.
They were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Sadly, five were pronounced dead upon arrival, while the three injured are currently undergoing treatment, with their condition described as serious.
The bodies of those who perished have been sent for post-mortem examinations, and the necessary legal procedures are currently in progress, as stated by police officials.
