Bahraich, March 2 (NationPress) A gruesome incident unfolded in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district as a young man reportedly murdered four family members with an axe amid a heated property dispute, leaving his elder brother seriously injured.
The horrifying event took place in Ramnagar village under the jurisdiction of the Rupaidiha police station on Sunday night. Authorities identified the suspect as Nirankar, who allegedly turned violent during a confrontation with his father, mother, grandmother, and sister over family assets. Tragically, all four victims succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
According to police reports, the altercation stemmed from a recent financial exchange involving the sale of a piece of land, which Nirankar was reportedly seeking a share of. This disagreement escalated, leading to the violent outburst.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) D.P. Tiwari informed IANS that Nirankar attacked his relatives in a fit of rage using a sharp weapon. His elder brother, who attempted to intervene upon hearing the chaos, was also assaulted and suffered serious injuries. Nirankar himself sustained injuries during the altercation.
In the aftermath, Nirankar allegedly attempted to end his life by striking his head with a brick, leading to significant blood loss and unconsciousness. Neighbors alerted authorities, who quickly arrived on the scene and transported the injured individuals to the district hospital. Due to his severe condition, Nirankar was later moved to a facility in Lucknow for advanced medical care and has since been taken into custody, with further legal proceedings pending.
Rakesh Singh, the Public Relations Officer for Superintendent of Police Ramnayan Singh, confirmed that the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examinations. A forensic team has also visited the site to gather evidence, recovering the axe and a bloodied brick used during the attack.
A neighbor shared with IANS that the family comprised two brothers, their parents, a grandmother, and a sister, emphasizing that there had been no known conflicts with anyone in the community. “There were no disputes with outsiders. It was a family matter,” the neighbor remarked. Villagers noted that the family was deeply religious and was preparing to participate in a religious event.
In response to the incident, additional police and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) personnel have been deployed in the village to ensure public safety. Investigators are examining all facets of the case and gathering statements from family members and neighbors to clarify the events leading up to the tragedy.
This incident follows another shocking occurrence in Lucknow on February 24, where a 19-year-old allegedly shot his father amid a dispute over his career and pressure regarding the NEET examination. Police indicated that tensions had been mounting between the father and son for a considerable period.
