Guwahati, June 28 (NationPress) After enduring a week of suspension, the train services connecting south Assam, Tripura, Manipur, and Mizoram with the rest of the nation through Guwahati will be partially reinstated starting June 29, as confirmed by an official on Saturday.
The services on the Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section of the Lumding division faced interruptions since June 23 due to significant landslides that severely impacted the railway tracks in the hilly regions.
Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma announced on Saturday night that train operations over the affected area in Lumpur-New Haflong within the Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section would begin to resume partially on Sunday.
Sharma mentioned that restoration efforts at the damaged site are advancing swiftly to restore normal train operations.
He indicated that limited train services are scheduled to run between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday, with a full resumption of services anticipated by Monday.
Goods trains carrying essential supplies such as petroleum products and food grains destined for Tripura and the Barak Valley in southern Assam will be prioritized for movement over the section.
Moreover, a POL wagon currently immobilized at Guwahati and set for unloading at Dharmanagar in northern Tripura will be dispatched promptly once the tracks are cleared, according to the official.
Post-restoration, the Sealdah-Silchar (Kanchenjunga Express), which commenced its journey on June 28, will be the inaugural passenger train to operate on its original route through the restored segment.
Following this, the Sabroom (Tripura)-Sealdah (Kanchenjunga Express) is set to start its journey on June 29 through the same section.
To assist stranded passengers, a special train will operate from Rangiya to Agartala on Sunday (June 29).
