When will train services in NE resume after disruption?

Guwahati, July 4 (NationPress) After a brief interruption caused by landslides, normal train services connecting South Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, and the rest of India through Guwahati resumed on Friday, according to officials.

The crucial train operations in the Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section of the Lumding division faced disruption on Thursday as landslides severely impacted the railway track in the mountainous regions of Assam's Dima Hasao district.

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma stated that the NFR has effectively restored train services in the Lumding–Badarpur Hill section following a landslide that occurred between Dihakho and Mupa stations.

The landslide halted train movement as large boulders and earth collapsed onto the tracks, temporarily suspending operations, he mentioned.

"Train operations through the Dihakho-Mupa section recommenced on Friday morning. The first train to traverse the restored section was the Agartala–Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express," the CPRO added.

He pointed out that immediately after the landslides on Thursday, senior railway officials promptly arrived at the site and commenced restoration efforts with urgency. Continuous work throughout the night ensured the debris was cleared and the track was safely restored.

Sharma also noted that help desks established at Guwahati, Lumding, Silchar, Badarpur, and Agartala stations continued to assist passengers during the disruption, providing updated information until normalcy was achieved.

Essential food items and water were also distributed to stranded passengers. The trains that were rescheduled or regulated at various locations have now resumed their planned journeys.

Meanwhile, following a week of disruption due to landslides in the same Lumding-Badarpur Hill section, regular train services connecting South Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, and the rest of India via Guwahati were fully restored on June 30.

The critical train services in the Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section had been disrupted since June 23 due to landslides that severely affected the railway track in the mountainous regions of Assam's Dima Hasao district.

During the monsoon season (June to September), every year, several northeastern states, particularly Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, and southern Assam, experience prolonged disconnection from the rest of India due to landslides, waterlogging, and damage to railway tracks, creating significant challenges for the local population.
