Bhopal, Aug 2 (NationPress) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and the State Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar paid homage to the first Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, the late Ravishankar Shukla, on his birth anniversary this Saturday.
Shukla, born on August 2, 1877, was not just a notable leader in the Congress party but also a key figure in the Indian Independence movement. He served as the inaugural Chief Minister of the recognized state of Madhya Pradesh from November 1, 1956, until his passing on December 31.
This commemorative event was organized by the State Assembly to acknowledge Shukla's significant contributions, earning him the title of the architect of Madhya Pradesh.
Notably, the absence of Congress leaders on this occasion, particularly Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, sparked criticism among attendees.
During the tribute, Chief Minister Yadav remarked that after taking office as the first Chief Minister, Shukla laid a foundation for the development of Madhya Pradesh (which included Chhattisgarh until November 1, 2001).
"Congress leader Ravishankar Shukla paved the way for the advancement of Madhya Pradesh. Since then, the state has experienced remarkable growth. His contributions will always be cherished," added the Chief Minister.
Shukla's legacy continues through his family; his son Shyama Charan Shukla served as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh three times between 1969 and 1990, while another son, Vidya Charan Shukla, a prominent Congress figure in Chhattisgarh, tragically lost his life in a Maoist attack in Bastar district in 2013.
CM Yadav expressed gratitude to Speaker Tomar for his initiative to honor all former Chief Ministers and Speakers of Madhya Pradesh on their respective birth anniversaries.
"I appreciate the Speaker's efforts in this initiative. It would have been beneficial for Congress leaders to attend this program, but the decision rests with them," stated CM Yadav.
Official sources in the Assembly confirmed that an invitation was extended to Congress and LoP Singhar, but no response was received from them.
