Kolkata, Aug 1 (NationPress) The president of the BJP's West Bengal unit and Rajya Sabha member, Samik Bhattacharya, on Friday leveled serious allegations against the Trinamool Congress and the administration led by Mamata Banerjee. He claimed that the party is employing perilous tactics to safeguard illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators, driven by the fear of losing the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.
Bhattacharya asserted that the Trinamool Congress is eager to keep these illegal infiltrators on the voter rolls of West Bengal, as they represent a significant vote bank for both the Trinamool Congress and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
During a press conference at the BJP's Salt Lake office on the northern outskirts of Kolkata, Bhattacharya accused the Trinamool Congress of sensing its impending downfall, causing them to protect infiltrators and intimidate booth-level officers (BLOs) to maintain the presence of bogus voters ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
"From Barasat to Madhyamgram, fake voter cards have been distributed to Bangladeshi nationals with the participation of local Trinamool Congress leaders. Booth-level officers are being coerced into ensuring that no fake names are removed from the voter lists. This isn't governance; it's sheer desperation," Bhattacharya stated.
He further remarked that the recent outcry from the Chief Minister regarding the alleged victimization of Bengali-speaking individuals in BJP-ruled states is not genuinely aimed at protecting the interests of authentic Indian Bengalis but rather to shield illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators who also speak Bengali.
In addition, he claimed that neighbors are alerting the police about the presence of illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators, including many Indian Muslims.
He emphasized that the names of these illegal infiltrators would be removed from the West Bengal voter list at any cost.
“Hindus and legitimate Muslim voters have nothing to fear regarding the special intensive revision of the voter list conducted by the Election Commission of India. The BJP stands firmly with them. However, illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators will not be tolerated,” he concluded.
