Kolkata, Oct 31 (NationPress) An important organisational meeting of the Trinamool Congress is set for Friday to determine the roles of party leaders, elected officials, state cabinet members, and grassroots activists in West Bengal for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), which will commence on November 4.
The meeting will be held virtually and presided over by the party's general secretary and MP, Abhishek Banerjee.
A senior party official noted that training for booth-level agents (BLAs) initiated on October 28 and will continue until November 4.
“During today’s organisational meeting, our general secretary is anticipated to provide essential recommendations regarding the roles and responsibilities of leaders and workers across all levels as the comprehensive revision process begins. He is also expected to outline ongoing protest demonstrations planned by the party in response to recent suicides and suicide attempts linked to fears surrounding the SIR and NRC,” stated a cabinet member who requested anonymity.
Following the announcement of the SIR for 12 states, including West Bengal, two suicides and one suicide attempt have been reported in the state, allegedly due to anxiety over the SIR and NRC.
The Trinamool Congress has characterized these incidents as the consequences of the BJP's politics of fear, division, and hatred. In contrast, the BJP accuses the Trinamool Congress and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of attempting to associate every suicide incident in the state with the SIR and NRC.
The meeting is scheduled to commence at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and is expected to last a few hours, with around 6,000 representatives from various leadership levels participating virtually.
Sources indicate that Abhishek will personally elaborate on the responsibilities of booth-level agents.
“The Trinamool Congress insists that not a single eligible voter’s name should be omitted. Significant emphasis is being placed on SIR to ensure this objective is achieved,” noted the cabinet member.
