Hyderabad, March 2 (NationPress) - In a shocking development, Hyderabad police have taken into custody four money lenders involved in illegal financial practices, which allegedly led to the tragic suicide of three family members last month.

Deputy Commissioner of Police for Secunderabad Zone, Rakshitha Krishna Murthy, made the announcement on Monday.

The deceased, Kadgekar Ramraj, 54, his wife Madhavi, and brother Kadgekar Shashank Raj, were discovered dead at their home in Bapu Nagar, Amberpet, on February 24.

An investigation was launched by Amberpet police following the discovery of suicide notes at the scene. In these notes, the victims revealed the immense stress caused by the relentless harassment from the money lenders.

According to the DCP, the suicide notes and testimonies from family and witnesses indicated that the victims were under extreme financial duress from some lenders, from whom they had borrowed Rs 57 lakh to operate their “King’s Biryani” restaurants located in Mallapur and Chakripuram.

The accused were reportedly imposing exorbitant interest rates on a daily basis, compelling the family to surrender blank cheques, promissory notes, MOUs, and original land documents as collateral. They frequently threatened and degraded the family over the phone, even warning of public humiliation at their residence.

Call data records revealed that the lenders contacted the family on the night of February 23-24, issuing threats regarding the repayment of the loans.

In light of the evidence gathered, the legal charge was upgraded to Section 108 of the BNS (Abetment to Suicide).

On March 2, the police apprehended the suspects, identified as Mohd Wasi Uz Zaman alias Irfan, a player in real estate and scrap businesses; P. Rajasekhara Reddy from the construction sector; businessman Mohd Nawaz; and electrician Syed Majeed Hyder.

During their interrogation, the suspects admitted to lending money at exorbitant interest rates and exerting pressure on the family for repayments. They also confessed to coercively acquiring blank cheques, promissory notes, and property documents.

The relentless harassment and unlawful financial pressure inflicted upon the family caused significant mental anguish, ultimately leading to their decision to take their own lives, stated the DCP.
