Agartala, Dec 18 (NationPress) The government of Tripura has declared an ex gratia payment of Rs 25.16 lakh for the families of individuals affected by the tragic collapse of a brick kiln chimney that resulted in the deaths of five workers and injuries to three others.
A representative from the district administration reported that the unfortunate event took place on Wednesday in Kamalpur, situated in the Dhalai district of northern Tripura, when a chimney at a brick kiln fell, leading to the fatalities and injuries.
Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha, in a social media update, stated that the District Administration of Dhalai has approved Rs 25.16 lakh as ex gratia support for the bereaved families impacted by the devastating incident at the Aparashkar Brick Factory in Nakful (Kamalpur).
“An amount of Rs 4 lakh has been allocated for each family of the deceased, in addition to financial help for those injured, sourced from SDRF funds. We are committed to providing timely assistance and support to the grieving families and injured individuals during these challenging times,” he remarked.
The deceased have been identified as Subal Debnath (55), Pinku Shil (37), Sajal Malakar (40), and Bidhu Sharma (45), all residents of Tripura, along with Anil Gautam (49), who hailed from Uttar Pradesh.
Among the three injured, one is from Jharkhand. Two of the injured workers have been transferred to the Govind Ballabh Pant Medical College and Hospital in Agartala for enhanced medical care.
Immediately following the incident, personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with local residents, worked to recover the deceased bodies and assist the injured, who were taken to nearby healthcare facilities.
Chief Minister Manik Saha, former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, and various political leaders expressed their condolences and extended wishes for a swift recovery to the injured.
The owner of the brick kiln, Souvik Paul, and the manager, Amit Deb, have been arrested by local authorities and are currently in police custody.
Dhalai District Superintendent of Police Mihir Lal Das and local BJP MLA Manoj Kanti Deb visited the scene to oversee the rescue efforts.
