Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday, 30 October inaugurated 27 development projects for South Tripura district at Sachin Debbarman Auditorium in Belonia, reaffirming the state government's commitment to balanced urban and rural development. The projects, spanning infrastructure, health, and sports, represent a combined outlay of approximately ₹69.11 crore.
Project Details and Investment
Of the 27 projects, 23 were formally inaugurated — virtually — at a cumulative investment of ₹56.82 crore. Foundation stones were laid for the remaining four projects, which carry an estimated expenditure of ₹12.29 crore. The event marks one of the larger single-district project rollouts under the current Tripura government.
CM Saha on Development and Youth Empowerment
'Maintaining equality in development is the goal of the present government. Balanced development across all areas remains our commitment,' Chief Minister Saha said at the event. He highlighted the Chief Minister's Youth Project, under which unemployed youth receive advanced skills training and preparation support for government competitive examinations. Saha expressed satisfaction that 180 unemployed youths from South Tripura district had already cleared various competitive examinations under this initiative.
Healthcare Expansion Across Tripura
Chief Minister Saha outlined a series of healthcare improvements, including increased hospital bed capacity, new health centres, trauma care units, and the opening of new medical colleges. He announced that a new medical college would be established at Ambassa in Dhalai district headquarters. Tripura now also has a dedicated nursing college, he added. Notably, kidney transplantation services have become available within the state, contributing to a gradual decline in the number of patients travelling outside Tripura for treatment. At Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and Hospital, subsidised meals are available at ₹10 and accommodation for patients' relatives at ₹30. New district hospitals are planned for Khowai and Sepahijala districts. Under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana, eligible poor patients are receiving financial assistance of up to ₹5 lakh for medical treatment.
Sports Infrastructure and Industrial Prospects
On sports, Saha said several steps were being taken to upgrade facilities and promote talent. He expressed hope that naming the South Tripura District Judo Centre in Belonia after Commonwealth Games gold medallist Asmita Debnath would inspire young athletes. On the industrial front, the Chief Minister noted that investors from outside the state were showing growing interest in Tripura and signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for establishing industries.
Other Highlights from Belonia Visit
Earlier on Friday, Chief Minister Saha unveiled a marble statue of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee at BKI intersection in Belonia. He also inaugurated three flood-control dams in the Ballarmukh area of North Belonia and Sukantanagar. All these actions collectively underscore the state government's emphasis on multi-sectoral development in the southern districts of Tripura, which have historically lagged behind Agartala in public investment. Further project rollouts for other districts are expected in the coming months.
