Tripura CM Manik Saha stresses people-first approach in development works
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday, 13 July directed state officials to place citizens' interests at the centre of all development and welfare initiatives, stressing that no resident should face hardship or inconvenience as a result of government projects. Saha issued the directives while chairing a Task Monitoring System review meeting held via video conference from the State Civil Secretariat, Agartala.
Key Directives from the Review Meeting
Addressing senior officials from multiple departments and all district administrations, Saha called for stronger inter-departmental coordination and more proactive public outreach. He said every district administration and government department must communicate welfare schemes and development initiatives clearly to ordinary citizens.
The Chief Minister emphasised that officers at every level of the administration should maintain close contact with the public, raise awareness about ongoing schemes, and ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive their entitlements without delay. He also directed departments to adhere strictly to prescribed norms so that projects are executed in a people-friendly manner.
Health Sector: Hospitals, Malaria, and PHCs Under Scrutiny
Reviewing the health sector, Saha sought detailed performance reports on district hospitals across Tripura. He gave specific instructions to ensure the smooth functioning of the paediatric department at Kumarghat Hospital and assessed the healthcare services being delivered there.
The Chief Minister also inquired about the prevalence of malaria and other non-communicable diseases in Dhalai district, stressing the need for sustained public awareness campaigns. He further directed officials to ensure that Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the state continue to provide uninterrupted services to residents.
Education and Mid-Day Meal Programme Reviewed
During the education sector review, Saha assessed the academic environment in schools, the quality of classroom teaching, and the implementation of the Mid-Day Meal programme. He emphasised maintaining high standards across all these areas and instructed concerned officials to regularly monitor both educational quality and nutritional services.
Tourism and Social Security Schemes
Highlighting the importance of tourism to Tripura's economy, Saha asked all District Magistrates to conduct regular field inspections of tourist destinations and ensure proper cleanliness, maintenance, and beautification so that sites remain attractive for visitors.
On social security, he directed departments to ensure the timely disbursement of allowances and financial assistance to beneficiaries under various schemes, so that eligible citizens receive government benefits without delay.
The meeting was attended by Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty, Secretary to the Chief Minister; secretaries of various departments; the Director of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department; District Magistrates joining via video conference; and other senior government officials. The review underscores the Saha administration's stated push to make governance more citizen-centric and outcome-driven across all sectors.
