During the celebration of Doctors’ Day, the Chief Minister revealed that a Super Speciality block has been constructed at the government-operated Govind Ballabh Pant Medical College and Hospital at an investment of Rs 250 crore.
“Currently, Tripura boasts three medical colleges, including a private institution, which collectively accommodate 400 seats. Additionally, the state features a 63-bed dental college and multiple nursing schools,” stated CM Saha, who is a qualified dental surgeon himself.
He also announced plans for a new 100-bed tertiary eye hospital in the state and emphasized the upgrade of all district hospitals with the requisite infrastructure and skilled personnel.
As the Health and Family Welfare Minister, CM Saha highlighted the launch of the Tripura Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana (TCMJAY), which offers annual health insurance coverage of Rs 5 lakh to every family in the state, with no income restrictions.
The TCMJAY initiative parallels the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY).
He mentioned that kidney transplants have already commenced in Tripura, and discussions are ongoing with prestigious health institutions to initiate liver and bone marrow transplants.
Expressing concern regarding substance abuse, the Chief Minister urged citizens and law enforcement to collaboratively combat the drug crisis in Tripura.
The Union Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Ministry has allocated Rs 198 crore for establishing a specialized drug de-addiction center in Bishramganj, located in the Sepahijala district.
CM Saha confirmed that drug de-addiction centers will be established in all eight districts of Tripura, with an investment of Rs 20 crore for each center.
Following the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, the Tripura government has adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards drug-related issues and illegal trade.
