Agartala, May 1 (NationPress) In a bid to facilitate the prompt distribution of social pensions to cancer patients, the Tripura government inaugurated a dedicated help desk at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Centre (AVBRCC) in Agartala on Thursday.
The help desk was officially launched by Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy and aims to assist eligible cancer patients in receiving a monthly social pension of Rs 2,000.
This initiative will streamline the documentation and enrollment process for new social pension applicants, ensuring that patients do not face unnecessary delays or harassment while waiting for their pensions.
A senior health official stated that cancer patients in Tripura, with the exception of government employees and those earning more than Rs 1.5 lakh annually, qualify for this pension.
Former Tripura Assembly Speaker Ratan Chakraborty, who is also the chair of the ‘Rogi Kalyan Samiti’ at AVBRCC, along with officials from the Social Welfare and Health Departments, were present during the launch.
Currently, there are approximately 4,000 cancer patients in Tripura.
Earlier, Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized that the AVBRCC is among the top cancer hospitals in the northeast and pledged to enhance the center's facilities for better treatment.
Holding the Health portfolio, Saha highlighted the importance of raising awareness about cancer and advised individuals to seek immediate medical help when noticing any unusual symptoms.
Additionally, the Chief Minister urged family members of cancer patients to foster a positive mindset, as early detection and treatment lead to improved outcomes.
The state government is committed to strengthening modern cancer treatment services, emphasizing that awareness and the elimination of harmful habits can significantly contribute to prevention.
