Agartala, Dec 2 (NationPress) The BJP administration in Tripura has placed a strong emphasis on attaining self-sufficiency in the agricultural domain to realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambition of transforming India into a global grain repository, stated Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Tuesday.
The Agriculture Minister, while distributing advanced farming tools, including tree saplings and spraying machines, to farmers at Mohanpur Agriculture Sub-Division, indicated that we must accelerate our efforts across every sector. In this regard, Tripura is advancing with strategic planning. This initiative is critical for modernizing agriculture, enhancing yield, and fostering self-reliance among farmers, he remarked, adding that with the provision of tools and resources, farmers will be able to cultivate more effectively, which will further propel the agricultural growth of the state.
“Furthermore, we must strive for self-sufficiency. If districts such as North, Gomati, and Sepahijala refuse to supply rice, where will it come from? Hence, self-reliance is vital. Within the Mohanpur Block, we need to be self-sufficient. We must operate in a manner that all nations import their food from India, as Prime Minister Modi aims to establish India as a grain store. Achieving self-reliance is essential to fulfill PM Modi’s vision. Agriculture is our core foundation,” Nath asserted.
The Minister elaborated that there was a belief that onion farming was unfeasible; however, scientists from the Agriculture College have demonstrated its viability.
“We are now cultivating both red and white onions in Tripura and are prioritizing onion and potato production. With rice, onions, potatoes, and pulses, there is no need for concern. Tripura has all that we need, and we must achieve food self-sufficiency,” Nath emphasized.
He noted that India exports fish to the USA, China, Europe, and Japan.
“We (Tripura) export eggs to Oman, Qatar, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives. We also export agricultural goods to Bangladesh and Pakistan,” the Minister concluded.
