Agartala, Nov 28 (NationPress) The BJP administration in Tripura has initiated a range of initiatives to position the state as a premier tourism hub in the nation, declared Power and Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Friday during the opening of the fourth edition of the 'Unity Promo Fest 2025', aimed at enhancing tourism.
Nath emphasized that to highlight Tripura's tourism capabilities to a global audience, the inaugural Promo Fest was conducted in 2024.
"Similar to last year, the Unity Promo Fest 2025 is being organized again, this time on a broader scale across six tourist spots, including Narikelkunja, Belonia, Udaipur, Jampui Hill, and Neermahal. The festival will culminate in a spectacular cultural event at the Swami Vivekananda Stadium in Agartala. Esteemed musical artists from across the country have joined the festivities and will continue to perform throughout the events," the Minister remarked.
He noted that the Promo Fest serves as a tourism initiative designed to advance the tourism sector, which will consequently increase employment and livelihood opportunities in the state.
According to Nath, tourism has evolved beyond mere entertainment; it is now recognized as a vital source of revenue and foreign exchange.
"Tourism is pivotal for the economic development of the nation and plays a direct and indirect role in cultural exchange and fostering friendships," he added.
The Minister stated that the primary goal of Promo Fest is to display Tripura's flourishing tourism sector to both domestic and international visitors, fortify bonds of harmony among nations and peoples, promote self-sufficiency and economic empowerment through homestay registrations, and enhance economic growth alongside cultural awareness.
Minister Nath revealed that due to the proactive measures taken by the Tourism Department, the influx of both domestic and international tourists, along with revenue generation and job opportunities, has been consistently rising.
In the 2016-2017 period, Tripura welcomed 380,578 domestic and 39,229 foreign tourists, totaling 419,807.
By 2024-2025, tourist arrivals surged to 627,705 domestic and 79,468 foreign visitors, reaching a total of 707,173.
He mentioned that significant tourist attractions within the state have undergone renovations.
"Improvements have been finalized for the Tripura Sundari Temple, one of the 51 Hindu Shakti Peethas, along with Neermahal, Dambur, Chobimura, and other sites," he added.
Minister Nath also inaugurated the newly refurbished Eden Tourist Lodge located in Vanghmun, near the Mizoram border.
Tourism and Transport Minister Sushanta Choudhury and Industry and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma were also present at the event held at the Vanghmun Playground in Jampui Hills.
