Agartala, Sep 28 (NationPress) Tripura has experienced a remarkable increase in domestic tourism, with a surge of 64.07 percent leading to a total of 601,000 visits. The number of foreign tourists also saw a rise, albeit at a more modest 36.15 percent, bringing the total to 91,000 visitors, as announced by the state’s Tourism Minister, Sushanta Chowdhury, on Sunday.

In his social media updates, the minister noted that in 2023, domestic tourist arrivals were 0.366 million, while foreign tourists numbered 0.067 million, ranking Tripura as the second highest in the Northeast, following Sikkim, which leads in foreign tourist numbers.

Chowdhury, who also oversees the Transport portfolio, highlighted that in 2024, domestic tourist visits rose to 0.601 million and foreign arrivals to 0.091 million, maintaining the state’s second position after Sikkim for foreign tourist visits.

Between 2023 and 2024, domestic tourist numbers grew by 64.07 percent, while foreign visits increased by 36.15 percent, the Tourism Minister reported.

He extended his congratulations to Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, the people of the state, and the entire Tourism Department team for this significant achievement.

Furthermore, Chowdhury mentioned that the Union Minister for the Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, have pledged their support for enhancing tourism infrastructure in Tripura.

Last week, the Tripura Minister met with both Union Ministers to discuss ongoing initiatives and future plans for the Tripura Tourism Department.

During his meeting with the DoNER Minister in Delhi, Chowdhury urged for financial assistance to develop tourism infrastructure in the Northeast state.

"The DoNER Minister assured all necessary support to enhance the tourism sector in the state," Chowdhury shared on Facebook.

He elaborated on the ongoing activities and future projects of the Tripura government’s Tourism Department during his presentation to the Union Minister.

"I also requested his vital support to advance several new tourism initiatives with the aid and funds from the DoNER Ministry. Scindia confirmed his collaboration for tourism development in Tripura," he noted.

In a separate Facebook update, Chowdhury informed that he also briefed Union Finance Minister Sitharaman about the Tripura Tourism Department’s current activities and upcoming plans.

"I sought her assistance in progressing some new departmental projects. The Union Finance Minister assured her cooperation for the growth of tourism in Tripura.

During these discussions, Tourism Department Secretary Uttam Kumar Chakma and Director Prashant Badal Negi were present.
