Agartala, May 6 (NationPress) - The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, announced on Tuesday that the state has successfully overcome terrorism, leading to a surge in tourism thanks to various ambitious initiatives. During an event in Chandibari, located in the Amarpur Sub-Division, the Chief Minister emphasized the long-lasting impact of insurgency on the state's growth and tourism.
He highlighted that after a pivotal tripartite agreement in Delhi, attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, numerous militants from the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) surrendered to the government in September of last year.
Since the BJP took power in Tripura in 2018, all key social indicators have significantly improved, he stated.
“Tripura ranks second in the northeastern region in terms of GDP, following Assam, and also holds the second position in per capita income after Sikkim. The state's rich natural resources and stunning environment are invaluable assets, and our government is committed to leveraging them,” the Chief Minister remarked.
Last year, over 700,000 tourists, both domestic and international, visited Tripura, he reported.
Tourism and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury added that a series of groundbreaking projects are underway, with more set to launch soon, aiming to establish the state as a prominent tourism hotspot in the country.
“With substantial funding from the Central government, we are initiating projects focused on religious and cultural heritage, as well as adventure and eco-tourism across various regions. In just two years, we aspire to transform Tripura into a world-class tourism destination,” he affirmed.
Chowdhury revealed plans for a state-of-the-art eco-park, inspired by Kolkata’s Nicco Park, to be built in Jirania, located in West Tripura. A budget of Rs 50 crore has been allocated for this eco-park.
Furthermore, the government is contemplating the introduction of seaplane tourism to enhance connectivity and promote tourism in Northeast India. He emphasized Tripura's numerous aquatic tourism sites, stating that with seaplane tourism, both international and domestic visitors will have greater access to these attractions.
