Chennai, Oct 20 (NationPress) Senior DMK figure and Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Durai Murugan on Monday delivered a pointed criticism of actor Vijay and Governor R.N. Ravi, claiming both display a lack of the necessary political maturity and insight for their respective roles.
Speaking to the press in Vellore, Durai Murugan remarked, “Forty-one individuals have lost their lives, and the blame is directed towards him (Vijay). He must take responsibility for this tragedy. Yet, he has not come forward nor provided any explanation. How long does he plan to remain silent, and how will this silence serve him?”
The minister, recognized for his sharp political commentary, emphasized that politics demands much more than mere popularity.
“Leading a party is a complex task. A party consists of people from diverse backgrounds, each with unique temperaments and experiences. Thus, a leader should not only have two eyes — his entire body must be perceptive, capable of observing all and thinking wisely. A thriving party must embrace everyone; otherwise, it risks fading into obscurity,” he noted, indirectly alluding to actor Vijay’s political aspirations and the controversies encircling his political venture.
In a separate discussion, Durai Murugan was questioned about Governor R.N. Ravi’s recent comment suggesting that “poverty remains unsolved in Tamil Nadu, and caste discrimination and separatism are on the rise.”
The seasoned DMK leader responded candidly, stating, “He is no longer acting in the capacity of a Governor for this state — he is comporting himself like the Leader of the Opposition. He has abandoned the dignity and decorum associated with his constitutional position. His words resemble those of an Opposition member, not that of a Governor.”
Durai Murugan continued, “Consequently, we do not hold him in regard as a Governor, nor do we wish to comment on him. While separatist tendencies are evident in several northern states, Tamil Nadu has upheld peace and harmony. The Governor’s comments are not unprecedented — similar sentiments have been expressed by others with political motives. Hence, I choose to disregard his statements.”
The minister’s remarks come amid rising tensions between Raj Bhavan and the DMK government, coinciding with actor Vijay’s political debut, which has sparked extensive debate within Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
