New Delhi, June 19 (NationPress) Former Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Shesh Paul Vaid responded on Thursday to the recent lunch meeting between US President Donald Trump and Pakistan's Army Chief, Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir, asserting that "there are no free lunches" and detailing four potential reasons for the encounter.
Vaid shared a video on his social media platform 'X', stating, “There is an idiom that there are no free lunches. Yesterday, US President Donald Trump hosted Asim Munir for lunch. This is not the first instance of such a meeting; previously, Pakistan Army Chiefs have engaged with US Presidents on three occasions. However, those meetings occurred while the Army Chiefs were also serving as the President of Pakistan.”
Addressing his first point, Vaid noted, “In those instances, they met the US President as the head of Pakistan. In contrast, Asim Munir has not yet assumed the leadership of the country. Could this be a hint of what’s to come?”
For his second point, he pondered a personal motive, stating, “Trump’s son operates a crypto business and recently visited Pakistan. Could this meeting have been for personal or business reasons?”
Vaid proposed a third possibility, suggesting, “The US may require airbases in Pakistan to oversee its operations in Iran.”
Lastly, he referred to the current situation surrounding former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is imprisoned, saying, “The fourth reason could be concerns related to Imran Khan, a popular leader. This topic might have been discussed. Only time will reveal the true intentions behind this meeting.”
On Wednesday, Trump welcomed Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir, at the White House, where discussions reportedly revolved around the intensifying Iran-Israel conflict and wider regional security issues.
Subsequently, during a White House event, Trump remarked, “I halted a war between Pakistan... I admire Pakistan... and I believe Modi is a fantastic leader... I spoke to him last night... I foresee a trade agreement with Modi from India... and I played a role in averting a war between Pakistan and India. This man (Munir) was pivotal in this effort from the Pakistani side... and Modi from the Indian side.”
However, following the meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a 35-minute phone call with Trump, firmly stating that the ceasefire following the military standoff from May 7–10 was achieved through direct communication between the Indian and Pakistani armed forces, without any external intervention.
