Guwahati, Jan 2 (NationPress) On Friday, Garima Garg, the widow of the late Zubeen Garg, revealed the formation of a trust named after the cultural icon of Assam, aimed at preserving and advancing his artistic, social, and cultural legacy.
This announcement comes alongside a renewed hope for swift justice regarding the circumstances surrounding his murder.
Speaking to the press, Garima Garg, accompanied by family and close associates of the singer, expressed her wish for the upcoming year to bring peace and optimism for all, affirming her belief that justice will eventually be served.
She stated that Zubeen Garg's principles, creativity, and lifelong commitment to the people of Assam will persist through collective efforts.
“Zubeen devoted his life to the people of Assam. It is now our duty to maintain his values and advance his work by following the path he has paved,” Garima emphasized.
After extensive discussions lasting nearly three-and-a-half months, the family, along with close friends and supporters, has decided to officially launch the Zubeen Garg Trust. The family's property in Kharghuli will be entrusted to the organization to serve as a hub for social, cultural, and creative initiatives that were significant to the late icon.
Garima Garg also expressed gratitude towards Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the state government for their actions in the ongoing investigation, urging authorities to accelerate the process to ensure timely justice.
The family revealed that the trust will function through three focused branches. The Kalaguru Foundation will concentrate on socio-cultural projects, while Abhinaya Performing Arts, an institution founded by Zubeen Garg in honor of his sister, will promote theater and performance arts, especially among the youth.
A dedicated research wing will focus on documenting and analyzing Zubeen Garg’s life, artistic contributions, and influence within Assam's cultural and social framework, including safeguarding his intellectual property.
In a press statement, the family highlighted that Zubeen Garg remains ingrained in the hearts of the Assamese people and stressed the importance of preserving not only his memory but also his discipline, ideals, and aspirations for future generations.
The trust will engage in areas such as society, culture, environmental conservation, and youth welfare. This initiative has garnered support from Zubeen Garg’s friends from his school days, as well as individuals from Assam’s cultural, administrative, and media sectors, along with the Zubeen Fan Club, which he affectionately referred to as his “army.”
Additionally, the family mentioned that the trust will prioritize public health and welfare, noting that health camps have already been organized in remote regions in Zubeen Garg’s name.
