Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 12 (NationPress) Today marks the polling day for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) General Election 2026, encompassing all 28 constituencies throughout Tripura. The authorities have implemented comprehensive measures to guarantee a seamless and secure voting experience.
There are 1,257 polling stations established across 16 subdivisions to assist voters. Official reports indicate that 9,62,547 voters are registered to participate, consisting of 4,81,959 men, 4,80,582 women, and 6 transgender individuals. A total of 173 candidates are competing, including 165 men and 8 women, creating a highly anticipated electoral showdown.
Voting will commence in the morning, with the administration emphasizing its dedication to conducting elections that are free, fair, and peaceful. Enhanced security measures have been put in place across the council regions. A senior police official previously confirmed that extensive arrangements are underway, with additional forces dispatched to all constituencies.
The Tripura Director General of Police, Anurag, noted that the Central government has dispatched 24 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), totaling approximately 1,500 personnel, at the last minute for election duties. Among these, 12 companies are from the Border Security Force (BSF), 10 from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and 2 from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). These forces are strategically stationed across all 28 constituencies to uphold security.
Moreover, around 12,000 personnel from the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and local police are assigned to maintain law and order. Among the polling stations, 311 are classified as highly critical, 693 as vulnerable, and 253 as normal, underscoring the necessity for increased vigilance.
The elections have attracted participation from significant political entities, including the BJP, the Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Front, and the Congress, alongside regional outfits like the Tipra Motha Party and the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura.
While the BJP, TMP, and Left Front have fielded candidates for all 28 seats, the Congress is contesting 27 seats and the IPFT 24. Additionally, there are 38 Independent candidates and various smaller parties vying for seats.
Notably, the BJP’s tribal allies, TMP and IPFT, are running separately after unsuccessful attempts to forge an alliance for these elections. Key figures including Chief Minister Manik Saha, state BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee, CPI(M) leader Jitendra Chaudhury, former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman, and TMP chief Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, have spearheaded vigorous campaigns leading up to the elections, intensifying the competition.
