Tirupati, April 11 (NationPress) The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) has strongly dismissed as false the allegations that more than 100 cows have perished in its goshala. On Friday, the TTD, responsible for overseeing the Sri Venkateswara temple, urged devotees to refrain from believing the misinformation circulating on social media.
In an official statement, TTD asserted that the reports claiming the demise of over 100 cows are untrue. The organization clarified that the images of deceased cows being shared online do not depict any from its goshala. TTD accused certain individuals of disseminating fabricated news intended to harm the sentiments of the devotees.
The Minister for Education and Information Technology in Andhra Pradesh, Nara Lokesh, has also condemned the false reports circulating online.
“I vehemently denounce the unfounded and malicious narratives being propagated on social media regarding cow deaths in TTD goshala. These claims are entirely baseless. TTD has clarified the situation,” he stated on ‘X’.
“Devotees are encouraged to disregard this false narrative, which has been promoted by the YSRCP to mislead and incite. It is disgraceful and intolerable to spread lies about sacred institutions for political advantage,” Lokesh added.
Earlier, YSRCP leader and former TTD chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy alleged that cows in the TTD goshala are dying in large numbers due to the negligence of the coalition government. He called for an inquiry to reveal the facts and preserve the sanctity of Tirumala.
He informed the media that over 100 cows have died in the past three months due to inadequate maintenance and care.
“The actual number might be higher, as this is merely what has come to our attention,” he added.
Karunakar Reddy accused the coalition government of focusing on making false accusations against Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy while attempting to undermine his commendable efforts.
“We demand a thorough investigation into the high mortality rate of cows and the poor upkeep of the goshala, which is managed by a DFO lacking veterinary qualifications, indicating sheer negligence by the coalition government and the TTD governing body,” he expressed.
“Cows are revered as sacred animals, and legends state that Lord Venkateswara thrived on cow milk. While the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister emphasize the importance of Sanatana Dharma, the coalition government has completely neglected the goshala,” he criticized.
He asserted that under Jagan Mohan Reddy's administration, the goshala prospered, bringing in over 550 cows of indigenous breeds from Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Punjab. In our tenure, 1700 liters of milk were supplied daily to Tirumala for rituals, while currently, under the coalition government, the supply has dwindled to less than 500 liters,” he concluded.
