TVK's Aadhav Arjuna Claims Candidate's Disappearance Indicates Political Manipulation in Edappadi
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, April 12 (NationPress) Aadhav Arjuna, the general secretary of election campaign management for the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), on Sunday, raised serious allegations regarding foul play linked to the absence of the party's candidate in the Edappadi Assembly constituency. He declared that the party would launch a vigorous campaign in the area.
While addressing the media after canvassing efforts in Villivakkam, Arjuna stated that TVK, under the leadership of C Joseph Vijay, initially positioned candidates in all 234 constituencies for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. However, the unexpected vanishing of their Edappadi candidate, Arun Kumar, means the party is now effectively contesting only 233 seats. He confirmed that the police have opened a case and begun an investigation into the matter. Authorities are currently probing whether the candidate was abducted or unlawfully confined, stirring concerns among various political entities.
Focusing on Edappadi, Arjuna made significant accusations against Edappadi K Palaniswami, who is also contesting from the constituency. He suggested that Arun Kumar could have been enticed away after receiving monetary inducements, labeling the act as a "betrayal of the party" and a violation of democratic principles.
“There are efforts to eliminate political rivals through financial incentives. This issue transcends a single candidate—it’s fundamentally about protecting democratic values,” he stated, albeit without presenting direct evidence.
Arjuna affirmed that TVK would escalate its campaign in Edappadi, aiming for direct engagement with voters to bring this issue to light. “We will inform the public and ensure that such malpractices are unveiled. Our campaign in Edappadi will be robust and ongoing,” he added.
Regarding the possibility of TVK endorsing an independent candidate in the constituency, he mentioned that the decision would be made by Vijay after discussions with party leadership. He reiterated that TVK remains dedicated to principles of integrity-driven politics and grassroots outreach, rather than succumbing to financial pressures.
As the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections draw near, the absence of a candidate adds a dramatic layer to the competition in Edappadi, a constituency already under significant scrutiny due to the involvement of a high-profile political figure.
