Chennai, Dec 10 (NationPress) General Secretary of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), T.T.V. Dhinakaran, stated on Wednesday that Tamil Nadu is expected to see a coalition government following the 2026 Assembly elections, as no single political party seems likely to achieve an absolute majority.
While addressing the press, Dhinakaran indicated that the current political climate in the state clearly suggests a fractured mandate.
Although all political parties aspire to govern independently, the existing ground reality implies that a coalition arrangement will be necessary.
“Regardless of the alliance that forms, no party is likely to surpass the majority threshold alone. A coalition government is unavoidable,” he asserted.
He also noted that if a comprehensive political alliance emerges under the leadership of actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), it could significantly challenge the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) coalition.
These remarks come amid increasing speculation regarding new political collaborations ahead of the pivotal 2026 elections.
When asked about his recent meeting with former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tamil Nadu president K. Annamalai, Dhinakaran clarified that the encounter was purely personal. “We have been friends for a long time. That meeting had no political connotations,” he stated.
In response to Annamalai’s claim regarding the demolition of 125 Hindu temples, the AMMK leader said he would refrain from commenting until verifying the details.
He emphasized that political organizations must operate with responsibility and refrain from stirring unnecessary tensions among communities transcending religious divisions.
Dhinakaran reiterated his appeal for unity among the loyal supporters of the late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.
“Everyone who genuinely follows Amma should unite under a single banner,” he remarked, hinting at O. Panneerselvam’s role in the internal dynamics of the AIADMK.
On the issue of law and order, Dhinakaran claimed that instances of murder and robbery have surged due to the escalating drug problem.
He expressed serious concerns regarding women’s safety, asserting that the situation has worsened significantly.
As for future political strategies, he mentioned that decisions regarding alliances would be officially announced in the next two months. While he confirmed ongoing discussions with several parties for potential collaboration, he chose not to disclose any names at this stage.
