They recovered one improvised explosive device (IED) and two mobile phones from their possession, as stated by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Wednesday.
The suspects have been named as Akashdeep Singh, known as Akash, and Yuvraj Singh, both hailing from Ranike village in Amritsar.
In addition to the IED and mobile phones, the police also seized their motorcycle, which was utilized in their criminal activities. DGP Yadav indicated that initial inquiries suggest that the duo maintained contact with a handler based in Pakistan, underscoring substantial cross-border connections involved in this conspiracy.
The investigation is still underway to determine both forward and backward linkages in this case, he remarked.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (Border Range) Sandeep Goel elaborated that the arrested brothers were plotting to execute a terror attack aimed at disrupting peace and stability in the border region.
Police teams are rigorously interrogating both suspects to identify their handlers and uncover the involvement of any additional members of the smuggling network, he added.
Providing operational insights, Senior Superintendent of Police (Amritsar Rural) Suhail Qasim Mir mentioned that, acting on reliable intelligence, a team from the Special Cell of Amritsar Rural apprehended both suspects and recovered the IED from them.
Forensic experts were summoned to the scene, where they safely disposed of the improvised explosive device, he stated.
An FIR numbered 386, dated November 25, has been lodged under Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act and Section 113 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the police station in Gharinda, Amritsar (Rural).
